Hi-Tech Hiring Event

On June 30, 2016, the North Central Texas College (NCTC) RITA grant staff, in partnership with the City of Lewisville, the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Veterans Commission, and Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas, hosted the second annual Hi-Tech Hiring Event.  Prototype IT, DKB Innovative, ECI Software Solutions, and TREND Micro were among the participating companies.  The event was open to job seekers in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex who were seeking positions in information technology, CISCO networking, cyber security, web design, Oracle database administration, technical helpdesk services, technical sales, and various other IT positions.  RITA coaches were on site to provide information on IT certification, as well as certificate and degree program options.

We were honored that Michael Howard (@michael_howard), Senior Principal Cyber Security Architect with Microsoft Public Sector Services Group, provided a dynamic lecture at the event.  Howard is an architect of the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL), a process for improving the security of Microsoft’s software.  Additionally, he regularly publishes articles on secure coding and design and is the co-author of the award winning “Writing Secure Code, 19 Deadly Sins of Software Security.”  During the lecture, Howard addressed the growing need for IT and cyber security education programs that emphasize application over theory and he also shared relevant tips on how to protect yourself in cyberspace.

The Hi-Tech Hiring event was a great success with employers like Sierra McDaniel of Convergys noting, “It was a great turnout and the applicants were amazing!”  Job Seekers also provided excellent feedback, with one in particular describing the event as “a great opportunity to gain access to leading Hi-Tech companies in the North Texas region.”  We were thrilled to see many RITA students and graduates in attendance.  Finally, we appreciated the opportunity to work with our local community and business partners and are looking forward to the third annual Hi-Tech Hiring Event!
